Online Training Module on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

For a solid introduction to life cycle assessment, browse the United Nations Environment Programme and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry's presentation on Integrated Life Cycle Management.

Also, as part of our mission to advance the understanding and use of life cycle assessment, IDCE has joined with other entities in sponsoring an online introduction to Life Cycle Assessment. The lead for this educational resource was taken by the Institute for Market Transformation to Sustainability (MTS). Non-financial support was provided by the American Institute of Architects, IDCE and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Two ten-minute segments completed for these entities by ilearning will be accessible in late 2005 for a modest fee. Both are moderated by Bob Berkebile, FAIA, Principal of BNIM Architects in Kansas City and Founder of the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE).

In Segment One, panelists Ann Edmiston from NRDC and Mike Italiano from MTS discuss questions introductory questions such as "Why is LCA important to the Building Industry" to "What about LCA should product purchasers ask for?" In Segment Two, Deborah Dunning from IDCE and Mark Ryan from Invista address more advanced questions ranging from "Where do you see LCAs five years from now?" to "What will be the result of broad use of IDCE's eLCie web-tool?
