About The Green Standard:

The Green Standard's mission is to advance global sustainability through the ways products and services are developed, selected and disposed of the end of their useful life.

Our Activities:

Through the education, technology and training programs The Green Standard creates for manufacturers and purchasers, we empower individuals and institutions to look holistically at products, measuring their impacts on people and the planet using science-based tools such as life-cycle assessments, and use fair and transparent resources to communicate the results.

To this end, The Green Standard is coaching manufacturers to make products that support environmental health, using life-cycle based resources that we are developing to support sustainable product design.

Additionally, The Green Standard offers educational seminars, training programs, and professional certification and accreditation for architects, interior designers, specifiers, and corporate & governmental purchasing agents.

Introducing The Green Standard Environmental Product Declaration System

The Green Standard is excited to share that we are in the process of launching an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) System in the United States in line with international guidelines and standards.  It is our goal to meet the growing demand for transparency and credibility with Life Cycle Assessment and environmental information.  The Green Standard will be introducing the first round of EPDs at GreenBuild 2008 in Boston, Massachusetts.  For more information, please see our EPD FAQ Sheet or contact Paul Firth or Ellen Hall.

History

The Green Standard was formed in 2000 as a 501© 3 organization, then called The International Design Center for the Environment (IDCE).  It is managed by a Board of Directors representing diverse stakeholder groups: educational institutions, government, industry, not for profit entities and professional service firms.

As a not-for-profit organization recognized by the IRS, The Green Standard develops programs and services that serve the public purpose of advancing human health, productivity and quality of life through advancing sustainable production and consumption.
